First Commercial Release of Layouts and Updates for All Toolset Plugins

February 10, 2015

After a long development cycle, we are ready with major updates for all Toolset plugins. This release focuses on usability and stability.

Layouts 1.0

Layouts is now a commercial product, by its own right. It’s fully integrated with all Toolset plugins, as well as with WPML and it even got its own price (see new prices below).

Now, you can design entire sites from inside Layouts plugin, including the necessary Views, Content Templates and CRED forms. Layouts 1.0 comes with an updated GUI, new cell-insert dialog (and graphics) and a lot more under the hood.

This release also comes with completely rewritten documentation for Layouts. If you are just starting with Layouts, we recommend reading the Layouts getting started guide. The Layouts theme integration guide explains how to build your own Layouts-based themes. This is good both for your client projects, as well as for Toolset-based themes for redistribution.

Views 1.7

Views 1.7 comes with dozens of usability improvements, intended to make your Views-based designs easier to implement. The custom search feature got a major rework. Now, it’s easier to create a custom search and add it to the site.

We’ve changed some of the terminology in the View admin to make it easier to understand what each section does. For instance, you will notice that the ‘Output HTML’ section is now called ‘Loop output’.

Views 1.7 also greatly improves on the connections between Views and Content Templates. When you create a loop, you can automatically place the fields in a Content Template. This makes designing a View a lot easier, separating between the loop and the item in the loop. It sounds a bit techie, but we’re sure you’ll discover this, and other improvements, when you move to Views 1.7.

Types 1.6.5

Types 1.6.5 includes a new ‘getting started’ section. You may have noticed a long survey that we ran to check what people are doing with Types. We appreciate all the wonderful feedback that we received and we hope that we put it to good use.

When Types starts, it will offer you to choose what kind of site you are building. Based on your reply, you will see detailed ‘how to’ instructions, explaining you how to achieve your goals.

This is a new thing in Toolset and we are looking forward to your feedback.

CRED 1.3.5

CRED 1.3.5 includes re-organized code, which makes it possible to run CRED Embedded. This means that you will be able to use CRED for themes that you distribute (free or paid). This version lays the infrastructure for embedded CRED. Full embedded mode will be available very soon for all Toolset plugins.

Besides preparation for embedded CRED, this version includes a number of fixes and stability improvements.

Updated Pricing for Toolset Components

Now that Layouts reaches version 1.0, we are changing the pricing structure of all Toolset plugins (for the good!).

Layouts, Views and CRED will cost $79 when purchased individually. The entire Toolset package remains at $149 and the Lifetime Toolset changes to $299.

Download and Update

As always, Toolset updates are backwards compatible. You can upgrade to this version from previous versions without any data loss. If you have been using Layouts beta with a ‘post content’ cell, please contact our support. This cell has been deprecated, but is still available in the code for manual activation.

The new versions of all Toolset plugins are available automatically in your WordPress admin, if you registered Toolset in your site. Otherwise, log in to your wp-types.com account, go to Downloads and download manually.

Coming Next to Toolset

In the next 2-3 weeks, you will be able to use Embedded Toolset plugins for your themes and plugins. The new Embedded mode will allow you to build Toolset-based themes and plugins and redistribute them. You can develop Toolset-based themes with a regular Toolset account (no need to buy costly ‘developer’ accounts). We will write all about it as soon as it’s available.

If you are already developing Toolset-based themes, please contact our support. As promised, we can help you get started earlier, using development versions.

We are also working on other major new features for Toolset, but I want to leave a bit for next announcements.

Feedback?
