Post Relationship Project Update – Migrating Current Relationships

May 19, 2017

The post relationship project hit an important milestone this week. Now, we have full import from the current parent/child relations to the new schema.

The new post relationship in Toolset will give you a lot more design options and much improved performance. It uses new tables instead of hanging on the postmeta table.

Of course, you don’t want existing sites to break when all this arrives. When you update Toolset to this new release, the sites will continue working exactly as before. You’ll have a migration wizard, which moves the relationship information to the new schema.

See how it works:

With this, we’re practically done with all the infrastructure work. Next, we’re updating Types shortcodes to support the new possibilities with related data and then the Views filters to use it in searches.

I’ll post another update when we have more to show.

  1. OK this sounds great.
Please can you provide us with the table structure of the new tables – and their relationships with the wp_posts table – for those of us who are importing content into WP.
    Many thanks!

    • Yes. We’ll publish all this info with the first beta release, so you can use it with custom code.

  2. Hi.

Do you have an appoximate date when many-to-many relationships will be ready? Or the first beta version?
I’m asking because i will need this for an upcoming project.
And also, i assume that it will work well with CRED?

    • It’s still a few months. First beta for Types will be ready in about a month. Then Views and CRED.

  3. Hi Amir, so is there some news for the next stepps. I am waiting for al long time. Last year August I think. What is the difference to ACF. Can gave us the performens usages between ACF and the Toolset 2.3. so we see the difference.

    • The next milestone in this project is a Types dev version with the full post relationship implementation. This will be ready in a few weeks. When it’s ready, we’ll write about all that it includes and you can compare it with other plugins and see which one you like best.
