June activities in Toolset

July 7, 2017

June is over. Although it was a quiet time in terms of releasing new features, we’ve become more active on Facebook, at WordPress events and in cooperating with Toolset partners.

Here’s the summary of June activities.

Toolset workshops at WordCamp Poland

We organized Toolset workshops at WordCamp Poland, Europe.

Topics covered:

  • How to customize a single product page
  • How to create a custom Shop page.
  • How to create front-end forms for submitting products.
  • How to create a custom search for Products.

All attendees (about 40) were impressed by Toolset features and how much you can achieve without PHP coding. On the other hand they found some of the flows we presented a bit complex.

It was also a great opportunity for us to see Toolset through a new user’s eyes and discover some areas where we can improve the UX and usability.

We plan to organize more workshops like this across the world. Right now we are collecting interesting topics. If you have some suggestions, please let us know in the comments.

Some of us attended WordCamp Europe 2017, which was happening in Paris, France this year.

We had a Toolset and WPML sponsor booth where folks from both teams were answering Toolset and WPML questions.

Some observations:

  • People know what WPML is, but they still ask what Toolset is.
  • Those who are already familiar with Toolset are very happy with it.
  • Developers love Module Manager export & import features as it saves them a lot of time.

Dario, Toolset documentation writer speaks on WordCamp Europe

If you use Toolset documentation, there is a good chance that the person behind the page you read is Dario Jazbec Hrvatin.

What you read is the outcome of a long process.

At WordCamp Europe in Paris Dario gave a talk sharing writing tips and techniques and revealed what the documentation writing process for Toolset docs looks like.

Contest for a custom 404 error page

404 error page contestFor the first time we ran a contest for non-Toolset customers.

The task was to create a custom 404 error page using Toolset plugins.

New videos

Since more and more people prefer watching videos rather than reading long posts we started adding some “home made” videos to answer user questions and cover other useful Toolset features.

See some examples below.

The power of Toolset Module Manager

We have updated the Toolset Module Manager documentation page and recorded a short video that explains how to use the powerful plugin.

The video was a spontaneous one and is available only on Toolset Facebook.

How to hide restricted pages from navigation

A while back a Toolset user asked the following question:

“What is the best way to hide menu items – the “Sign Up” for logged in users and the “My account” for logged out users. “

The solution is to use the Toolset Access plugin and Post Groups. Details explained in the video.

Check Toolset Facebook for more videos we added.

  1. Absolutely! Keep these summaries coming! This is a great, quick look at what you guys are up to, and I like the videos thrown in here. It’s a nice easy to read layout too. Kudos!

    • Nice! Thanks! That was exactly our point – to keep them short, I mean both the monthly summaries and the videos. Thank you Jeff for your comment.

  2. Yes, very useful to see what’s going on. It would be great if it also included updates on the roadmap. I’m sure many Toolset users are keen to know how close the post relationships update is to release.

    • Thanks! We’re going to have a nice beta version of the Toolset Types with post relationship by the end of this month. We already have a lot of it working and we’re now integrating between everything.

  3. Great work Agnes! Love how active you have been, your videos, increased facebook presence, etc. 🙂

I do agree with Tim. Many of us eagerly await post relationship updates! Hope you all are close!

Also, I do know there’s a large group of us who would also love some more focus on using Toolset with the WP REST API as it is clearly the future for WordPress.

Thanks for all you do! 🙂

    • Thank you Jason. Regarding post relationship updates, I just replied to Tim. So the plan is to release a beta soon. About WP TEST API. I’ll pass your comment to our developers. Correct, Toolset users do ask about it.

  4. Hi Amir and Agnes, I am waiting now since august 2016 of the the new many to many relationsship. You would gave us an demo at June to see how it works. Sorry this feature has to be ready this month! Most of us are now working with toolset and acf, but the DB-code insite WP is looking horrible right now. We need this update with high periority.
    thanks for help-
    Henryk

    • Hi Henryk,
the new many-to-many relationship is a priority for us as well. As I just replied to Tim, our plan is to release a beta version by the end of this month. Regards, Agnes.

  5. I’ve been following the new many-to-many relationships teasers from the the Toolset blog for months, almost 12 months at this point. Sorry guys but it’s really disappointing to have to wait so long for this. I really like the plugins but at some point you need to realize this has been an essential and obvious piece of functionality for years. At some point users will leave as there are other options out there.

    • I see your point Tim. Thank you for being with us despite these inconveniences, we definitely don’t want to see you leaving.

    • Sharing Tim’s and Henryk’s thoughts. If literally the only update in the next release were m2m relationships, I would be ecstatic.
