Learn how to use the integration of Toolset with Beaver Builder in the best way to create templates for your custom post types.
When you work on sites that have “templates”, there are two things that you need to create:
- Templates – the single design that will dictate the appearance of all content items on the front-end
- Content items themselves
For example, if you create a library site, your site will include many “books”, but only one visual design for how books should appear on the front-end. We call this design “template”.
To use Beaver Builder correctly with Toolset, you should design only the templates with Beaver Builder and use the standard WordPress editor for the actual content. This way, you enjoy the convenience of working with custom fields in the WordPress admin and design templates with Beaver Builder.
|Purpose||What to do with Toolset||What to do with Beaver Builder||How to edit content|
|Design templates for custom post types||Create a Content Template for the custom post type||Design the Content Template with Beaver Builder||Use the standard WordPress editor and not Beaver Builder|
|Design archives for custom post types||Create a WordPress Archive with Toolset. In the WordPress Archive, use a Content Template to display each of the items in the loop.||Design the Content Template in the View loop with Beaver Builder||Use the standard WordPress editor and not Beaver Builder|
How NOT to use Beaver Builder with Toolset
There are many ways to do something wrong; however, let’s focus on the scenario that might appear most natural but can cause the most confusion.
If you are planning to design templates with Toolset and Beaver Builder, do not use Beaver Builder to also edit the content of individual items.
|Content Template with Beaver Builder||Editing content with Beaver Builder||Result – you cannot display a Beaver Builder design inside another|
In this case, we attempt to use Beaver Builder for both the template and content editing. It does not work because you are trying to display one Beaver Builder grid inside the other.
Instead, you should design only the template with Beaver Builder and author the content with the standard WordPress editor.
Of course, for pages that do not also use Beaver Builder as a template, you can use Beaver Builder to design the content.
