1.I have a staging site on a sub-domain on which I play after which I replicate the changes on production site
Is it possible to activate it on both the sites or is there a way around for this?
Absolutely. Just Download and Install the Plugins on your other site, then activate them in the Dashboard > Plugins area.
That's all.
You do not even need to register it for functionality, but for Support and Updates, you need to register.
2. I am using the Divi theme and am do not know coding though I plan to learn
HTML and CSS to use this
Which toolset components do I need to use to create a similar custom post type to the below link:
hidden link
That's not a Custom Post Type.
That's a Plugin, and it adds a feature to WordPress where you can include a button in the editor to easily insert your shortcodes.
I have not ever worked with this Plugin, so I do not know exactly what it does, but it is not related to Custom Post Types.
2. What I meant was 'how to create a page\post similar to the custom post similar to the link/page I provided with' and not about the plugin inside the content
Apologies for the ambiguity
The website wpexplorer.com displays plugins and themes in pages/posts like a directory
3.Is it possible to create a search box and display results that come up using Ajax and also when clicked on category similar to in the below link:
hidden link
4. Can you explain/differentiate between views and layouts? I understand that views is drag and drop builder though

OK, I understand you want to build a similar website to wpexplorer.com (a directory of your content).
2.Is it possible to create a search box and display results that come up using Ajax and also when clicked on category similar to in the below link: hidden link
You simply choose to update the Results with AJAX, in the View's Filter Section.
3. Can you explain/differentiate between views and layouts? I understand that views is drag and drop builder though
Views is a plugin to render data.
This means you define what data to get, and how to display it.
Layouts is a tool that lets you define the loop and location of elements on your Website.
It's a Drag And Drop Bootstrap Layout Builder.
You can insert Cells (also Views) and move them with DnD, and this will then apply to your front end.
More about Layouts here: https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/#layouts
It needs to be integrated with your Theme, unless you use Toolset Starter Theme or an integrated Theme like DIVI + The Toolset DIVI integration.
1. You mentioned 'minimally' Why do you think so? Please explain
Well, I think this because these are the Plugins you will need to create such a page/website, at the minimum.
You can try any other Plugin but if we talk about Toolset, Types and Views are the plugins you need minimally to achieve a similar website.
The reasons are explained in my previous post, where I elaborate how to do the things.
2. Can this be achieved using types or do I need any additional plugin?
No, as mentioned, the minimal requirement of this website will be Views (display) and Types (backend setup of Custom Types)
If it's not an issue, I would like to continue to use this thread to ask basic questions
When creating a new post type, can I leave the 'labels' default or do I need to edit the '%s'
Can I edit the custom post type anytime to include or delete a new 'text or similar' section?
If I am to delete/disable such a section, what happens to the content in the posts already published?
Beda is on vacation. Let me answer that last question for you.
When you make a new post type it is unlikely you will need to change the default labels unless you have a very specific reason to. As you can see in the screenshot, where I am on the post edit screen to create a new post of the post type Project, the labels are used in the admin pages to show "Add New Project", for example, instead of a generic "Add New Post".
- "Can I edit the custom post type anytime to include or delete a new 'text or similar' section?"
I'm not sure what you mean by "text or similar" section.
A post, whether it is a standard WordPress post or a custom post type defined by Types or another plugin, has certain standard fields, such as the post title, the post body (the content), the post excerpt, the post author etc.
You can add additional fields, including single line or multi-line text fields, using Types custom fields which you assign to that post type. So you might add a custom field "Description" to your custom post type. When you create your custom posts you will be able to fill in this field and it will be saved alongside the post.
If you then removed the custom field from Types (or disabled Types) the custom field content for the posts would still exist in the database, but when editing the posts you would no longer see it (you would have to query the database to retrieve it).
